CBRF Standard Precautions Course

CBRF Standard Precautions Course

Standard Precautions are practices used to reduce the spread of infection. They are based on the principle that all blood, body fluids, secretions, excretions (except sweat), non-intact skin and mucous membranes may contain infectious agents. Standard Precautions consist of various practices including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (gloves, gown, mask or eye protection), respiratory hygiene, cough etiquette, and safe injection practices. Employees must follow standard precaution practices whenever caring for a resident even if the person does not seem to have an infection or a disease that can spread to another person. Standard precautions can prevent employees from becoming infected and transmitting infectious agents to the residents.
